Durante o GDC Awards, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild foi coroado novamente como o melhor jogo do ano de 2017. O vencedor da premiação foi decidido por desenvolvedores e membros da indústria dos games, que estão reunidos na cidade de San Francisco para apresentar novos projetos e discutir oportunidades de negócio.
O game desenvolvido pela Nintendo também levou para casa os prêmios de Melhor Áudio e de Melhor Design, mas não levou todas as categorias em que concorria — Cuphead, por exemplo, foi o vencedor da categoria de Melhor Arte Visual. O outro grande vencedor da noite foi Gorogoa, que levou para casa o Innovation Award e a premiação de Melhor Jogo Mobile.
